The Cochin Carnival is one of the biggest Carnival held in Fort Kochi as part of New Year Celebrations. Introduced by Portuguese in January 1st 1528, as part of welcoming Portuguese New Year, the traditions went on till 18th century when the City was taken over British and revived in early 80s. This carnival will feature the cultural melting pot of Fort Kochi’s traditions with Portuguese, Dutch, Gujaratis, Konkanis, Malayalees, Andhras, Kannada, Tamil, Arabs, Punjabis and Anglo-Indians.
The 29th edition of the Cochin carnival will be held from December 9 to 31 at Fort Kochi. The carnival rally will be held on January 1, 2013 – starts from Veli Ground, 3PM.
Carnival Fair and Amusement park – Fort Kochi Veli Celebration Ground, starts from December 20 – January 2, 2013.
